Information for parents

The ALP offers an extensive program for students from the 5th grade up. Exciting workshops, holiday events and after school activities covering various topics of the STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths. During these events our mentors are on hand with help and advice.

Your daughter is interested in one of our events? Here you can find answers to commonly asked questions!

Who are the mentors?

Mentors are very engaged female students or trainees who are in the STEM fields themselves and have been coached for their work in the project. They give the younger students an understanding of various STEM-related topics and offer guidance in their educational and professional orientation phase. It’s our goal to show the girls new perspectives and widen their spectrum of possible career choices, especially in the STEM fields.

How can I sign my daughter up for an event?

You can find a list with all upcoming events here. How to sign up is separately explained for every event. Details about location and a short overview of the content are also published on the homepage.

Apart from workshops students can participate in regularly offered after school activities at their schools. Just ask your daughter’s teachers if the school is already working with us or suggest a new cooperation.

Do the events cost a participation fee?

All events that we offer are free for the participants. The ALP is financed through the Ministerium für Familie, Frauen, Jugend, Integration und Verbraucherschutz and the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Weiterbildung und Kultur as well as the European Social Fund.

How will my daughter benefit from the program?

Participants are supervised by mentors that aren’t much older than themselves which promotes identification. They act as a role model and contact person for your daughter that can help with insecurities or worries about career possibilities. The stress-free environment of the events helps discovering strengths and abilities away from the pressure of school in a group of like-minded young girls. Getting exclusive insights into the jobs and study courses from women who are currently in the STEM field helps girls expand their career choices and helps them find their way.

Who can I talk to for further questions?

You can find a list with all contact details for our locations here.

Why is our motto “What I want, I can do!”?

Girls aren’t less qualified than their male peers to pursue a STEM career but do it more rarely. One of the main reasons for this is that the situation of many students in STEM classes and study courses as well as women in STEM jobs is riddled with prejudice. This means girls need more self-confidence and determination to execute their dreams. Our project aims to help and encourage them to pursue their interests without being influenced by negative gender stereotypes.

Can I support the ALP as a parent?

It is possible to directly support the ALP via donations or a membership to our Förderverein. You can find more information here
